General Consultation

Sometimes it is difficult to know what kind of help makes the most sense or even if a consultant or specialist is worth the cost. Bringing in someone from "the outside" can often, but not always, result in greater clarity and increased options to deal with a question or a challenge. But what should an organization ask for?

This is a common concern. In this situation, when it's just not certain what the next step should be, we suggest the following steps:

  1. CONTACT US.  Talk with us about what is going on.  All communication is kept private and confidential.  There is no charge for this. Our job is to listen, ask some questions, and perhaps offer suggestions.   We receive such requests all the time, from all over the United States, its territories, and Canada, and from all kinds and sizes of agencies.
  2. If it turns out a consulting or professional advisory firm doesn't make sense, or that we're not the right place, we will tell you that and refer you elsewhere.
  3. If it turns out that there is a good reason to consider using an outside consultant, we will tell you why.  If what your organization needs is within our scope of services, we will either offer a specific approach or a general consultation (see below).  In either case, we will prepare a letter proposal with references, fees, schedule, consultant, etc.

What We Do In a General Consultation

In a general consultation, we work together to understand the challenges, refine the issues, set objectives and explore ways to accomplish them.   It can save a lot of time, narrow the focus of future work, and it is cost effective.

After a short letter proposal and agreement, a senior consultant with experience in the area of interest will meet with you and/or your management team at your location, listen, facilitate a focused discussion, offer perceptions, tender useful recommendations and outline any subsequent steps. These steps may or may not involve any further outside assistance.
